BoarsHead Theater's Summer Conservatories for Young People - 2007 
 
All the World's a Stage
BoarsHead Theater presents a two-week program for performer’s ages 13-18 to brush up on their Shakespeare. (No previous work with Shakespeare required!) Students will have the opportunity to perform scenes from Shakespeare’s play on the BoarsHead stage. 

 

They will be instructed in:

  • Stage Combat
  • Voice
  • Dance
  • Mask-making
  • Script analysis
  • Elizabethan costumes/Wigs
  • Historical background
Class Size: 20 Students
Ages: 13-18
Dates: June 18 - June 30

          Monday - Friday
             9am - 4pm

Act On It!
These children will become their own playwrights as they compose a story that they will then perform on their final day of class. They will develop their storylines from photographs and paintings that will stimulate their imagination. They will create costume pieces and props. Music and dance will be included.

 

They will be instructed in:

  • Story development: What is a plot, character, climax, dialogue etc.
  • Props and Costumes: Design and decorate prop and costume pieces. 
  • Theater games that help develop acting skills.
  • Dance and movement.
Class Size: 15 Students
Ages: 9-12
Dates: July 9 - July 20 (no classes week of July 4th) 
             Monday - Friday
             1pm - 4pm

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
This class provides children with the opportunity to play theater games and learn teamwork. Familiar storybooks will be used as a guide for script development and the children will make crafts that will be props and costume pieces used in their performance.

 

They will be instructed in:

  • Props and Costumes: Design and decorate prop and costume pieces.

Ages: 5-8
Dates: July 9 - July 20 (no classes week of July 4th) 
             Monday - Friday
             9am - 12noon

Registration

Registration is on a first come, first served basis. To reserve a place in a conservatory, submit your registration early with your $100 deposit. Previous experience is not necessary. All parents and students should plan on being at the first class in order to pay balances and finish registration. We will have a parents’ meeting at the first class that will last about 10 minutes.

Payment Information

The tuition includes scripts and sheet music. You must make a $100 deposit to reserve a space. Balance must be paid in full by the first day of class. You are not responsible for providing set, props, or elaborate costumes. All set, props, and costumes will be minimal. You may need to provide street make-up, basic clothing, shoes, socks, shirt, and slacks.

Refunds

No refunds will be given for dropping out after June 1, 2007. Drops before May 11 may receive a refund only if the class is full and the vacancy caused by the withdrawal is filled. If a student is asked to leave the workshop, there is no refund.

Expectations

Previous theatre experience is not necessary. Theatre is a collaborative art based on trust and teamwork. Students are expected to be courteous and respectful to the instructors, fellow classmates, and other BoarsHead staff. Verbal/physical abuse, swearing, stealing, vandalizing, and the inability to cooperate are grounds for dismissal without a refund. Students will be required to attend every class session, to be on time, and to be present for the full session. Repeated tardiness or early withdrawal without prior notice may be grounds for dismissal without a refund. Students must be picked up at the BoarsHead on time. Students will be required to learn lines and blocking. Students are responsible for their scripts. Replacing lost or forgotten scripts costs $5.
